YouTube Video: "RCA Dynaflex: vinyl that bends"

Ah! yes, the dreaded "Dynaflex" vinyl record which RCA tried to pass as a higher-quality product (it wasn't). Just another way to use less vinyl per album. Cheaper, perhaps, but in no way a higher-quality record.

Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy - Modern Revolutionary Peking Opera (1970?)

This is the Chinese opera whose title Brian Eno "borrowed" for his 2nd solo album.
The cover has that CLASSIC Communist-Party-approved artwork.
Really cool item!

Vinyl dead? It’s very much alive and well, thank you very much

I’ve recently been having a bit of fun compiling my list of top 10 albums for the first half of 2011 (below, in no particular order). Here’s something interesting I found out, as I was working on this: only TWO of the titles are not available on vinyl from Amazon.ca. If there’s ever any proof that vinyl is alive and well, there it is.

My Top 10 albums for the first half of 2011:

• Arbouretum – The Gathering (NOT currently available in vinyl from Amazon.ca; however, it’s available directly from their record company, Thrill Jockey.)
• Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues
• James Blake – James Blake
• Nicolas Jaar – Space Is Only Noise
• The Unthanks – Last (NOT currently available in vinyl from Amazon.ca)
• Earth – Angels of Darkness Demons of Light
• Mogwai – Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will
• Bill Wells and Aidan Moffatt – Everything's Getting Older
• Other Lives – Tamer Animals
• Prefuse 73 – The Only She Chapters

Quite amazing, don’t you think? Talk about a rebirth of vinyl! And to top it off, most of these titles are currently temporarily OUT OF STOCK, which can only mean that they're selling quite well.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering: yes, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way and Adele’s 21 are also available on vinyl!
